Obedience

1 Samuel 15:22-23 (NKJV)

22 So Samuel said: “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams.23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you from being king.”

As children our parents taught us many things and they wanted us to obey.  Through what they were teaching us was preparing us for our journey in life.  When we did not obey there were be punishment, or discussions or possibly both.  Yet the key was they wanted to guide us, direct us, and show us what was best for us.  Did we always understand all that they wanted to show us?  Not always, but they wanted us to learn because of their love for us.

Our Heavenly Father gives us His Word through the Bible as a guide for our lives.  He shows us direction, mistakes others made, how He forgives and most importantly how much He loves us.  God’s desire has always been for us to obey.  He sent Jesus to the cross as the sacrifice for our sins to show us how much He loves us.  We need to have Him in our heart and then we will have the true desire to obey.  Will we make mistakes?  Yes, but our desire will be to ask forgiveness and get it right in the days to come.  As we get it right we will want to live for Him and not for the sin.

His Word guides us in how to overcome the world.  So start the New Year renewing your mind and heart and focus on His love for you.  As you grow in your walk let others see His glory through you.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father:

Thank You for Your Word. Thank You for Jesus. Thank You for forgiveness.  Please help guide me daily so I can see Your best for me.  Help me to learn to always trust and obey all You in all that You show me.

In Your Son Jesus precious Name we pray.  Amen.
