Luke 18:9-14 (NKJV)
9 Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men–extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.’ 13 And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Do we see others with a prayerful heart or with critical eyes? Too many times we look at others and see them in critical condition. They are hurting and we do not always know why. Our minds can sometimes ignore them, maybe look and see and think maybe they got what they deserved, or we can be humble and pray for them. Too many times we are critical and not taking their need to the cross in prayer. Remember you need to lift them up whether you know the need or not. God knows where they are and what they need so lift them up.
Lifting them up takes your eye off yourself and looking to the cross. Jesus went to the cross for all so pray for them. When you have been in need do you realize how many people have prayed for you? They may not have known your pain, but prayer warriors know when to pray. You might be surprised at how many people pray for you daily. Out of those praying for you some may know you and some may never have met you. Please be like the tax collector and be humble. Please do not be like the Pharisee condemning to in turn think more of himself. Except by grace that could easily be you that is in critical condition.
Be in prayer for others because there are others praying for you. Prayer does make a difference and you will both be blessed when you see what our loving Savior does for those when they are lifted up in love and truth.
