Matthew 6:8 (NKJV)
Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.
Let us look at who Jesus is describing in the verses before in Matthew 6:5,6,and 7 (NKJV).
5 “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. 7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.”
So many times, we have read the Lord’s prayer and may not have looked at the Scriptures before. God knows our needs and He wants us to seek Him and spend time with Him. Now understand He wants you to call upon Him and desire to spend time with Him, but you are not on a time clock. He wants to show you things and you will only see by reading Scriptures and praying. Now in praying listening is helpful to know what He wants to show you in His Scriptures.
Now if we know He knows all that we need, then let us look at three examples Jesus gives in praying.
1. Praying is not about you, so do not draw attention to you, but attraction to God.
2. Pray where you have no distractions, then you will give Him your full attention to hear answers.
3. Do not be wordy or repetitive thinking He missed, but know He hears.
God cares, shares, and prepares with those who seek His love and come to Him. God’s love is there, and we need to spend time with Him. He knows you by name. He knows your need and we need to realize we need Him. So, seek His love because He is waiting to share His love with you and that is the most important need.
Dear Heavenly Father:
Thank You for knowing my need before I ask. Thank You that You know me by name and that You created me. Thank You for meeting my needs and providing for me. Thank You for needs You met before I asked because You love me. Thank You for Jesus going to the cross and what He did for me. I need a Savior and He is the perfect sacrifice for us.
Thank You for loving us that much! Amen.
