His Presence

Luke 10:38-42 (NKJV)
38 Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.” 41 And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. 42 But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

When you have the opportunity to sit down and have a quiet time with Jesus what do you look like? Do you look like Martha or Mary? We see Jesus coming to them and we see Martha busy serving. We see that Mary is listening and preparing her heart for what He has to share. So, let us look at this situation.

Martha serving and doing all the preparations to entertain. Now this may seem important to Martha, but it is a distraction from hearing Jesus. Sometimes we get so busy in serving we miss out on the true blessing. Jesus coming to visit and wanting to share His best with them, yet Martha was doing her best to share with Him. She needed to draw near to hear like Mary.

Mary sat down to listen, and she was attracted and not distracted. Hearing Jesus and gave her the opportunity to retain what He had to share. Jesus has so much to share with us, yet we get too busy at times.

We get busy and think maybe later. We tend to get our priorities out of order instead of in order. How many times have you had a need to sit still to pray and read the Scriptures, yet you did not? When you don’t you are like Martha, and when you do you are like Mary. We need to make time for Him, take time for Him, and not make the mistake of missing time with Him.

So please treasure each moment you have to listen and learn and see the joy that comes with the time.

Father, please help me to take the time to hear You. Thank You for what You must share with us and most importantly that is Your love.
I love You and thank You for loving me. Amen.
