Does Your Identity Show Listening?

Luke 10:38-42 (NKJV)
38 Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house.
39 And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word.
40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.”
41 And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things.
42 But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

When is the last time you spent quiet time with the Lord? Now think a minute and be honest. Quiet time with no distractions is the key to spending time with the Lord. We see in Scripture Martha and Mary having Jesus in their presence. Martha is a busy body making sure everything is in order. Her thinking Jesus wants to see her busy getting things straight and orderly, yet He is there to visit and not observe her. Too many times we act like Martha in our everyday lives and leave out Jesus. Keep a schedule, stick to the planner, ten things to do and yet only time for eight are some of the excuses we use. We get things our of proportion and we question our stress, frustration, or lack of satisfaction. When we get our walk right and our priorities in line we enjoy the journey.

Also, in ministry we tend to be busy and be like Martha instead of Mary. We try to stick to a plan and miss out that it is God is working through us. So, we need to be like Mary and spend time at the feet of Jesus.

When we are still and at His feet we see all that He has for us. The peace, understanding, direction, purpose, His way and most important His love is what we need to know. So, sitting at His feet and listening leads us to see all that He has for us. When we do we will know His loving direction and purpose for our life and we will in turn know how to serve to be able to give Him all the Glory.
