God Shows Us
“I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.”
Ephesians 4:1-6 NKJV
When we come to know the Lord, we are called and we are to begin to walk worthy as we see in Ephesians. Our walk is to be with Him. Notice we are to walk in love which in turn leads to unity. Unity with Him, unity with our family, unity with our church family and unity with other brothers and sisters in Christ.
So, our focus needs to be upon Jesus.
Our focus on Him to see how to walk, where to walk and when to walk. His direction is perfect, and His timing is never off. As we will see our outreach needs to include the 7 “P’s” or else we fall short. We do not want to fall short in His way for His timing and all for His Glory so we must focus on Jesus. As we focus on each of these areas then our reaching out will be with Him in us, with us and through us. When we do this, it is God’s love in us to love others. It is Jesus calling out to others through us to touch their needs. It is the Holy Spirit with us to provide strength and words to share to show others that God does care.
You may have struggled in the past with how to help others. You may have thought does my gift fit where I am going to church. You might have needed to wait until now for Him to give you all you need. You may have needed to connect to His love more to know how to connect to others to share with others how to connect with God’s love.
So many areas to consider yet by trusting God we see that He has all the answers, plans and love for all to receive and when we share His way, He gets all the Glory.
God has been showing me this through the years, but it was a process of preparing me to walk in His strength and to encourage others also. God is love and He wants all to receive the fullness of His love and walk in it.
Are there times I walked in it yes, times I did not yes and yet I have learned from both.
Sometimes we do not realize that God gives us the tools to use and there are times we use one tool and other times we need every tool.
My degree is in business management and I work in sales and manage a territory as well as people. I also get to minister to my team, my customers, and my encounters in the public. As I pastor at Waples Baptist Church, I realize I also get to pastor not only at church but also in the work field. Some I encounter may go to church or some may not, some to encourage and some to share with. These are opportunities that encourage us and stretch us yet when we walk with Him, He knows where His love needs to be shared. This is being Kingdom focused and not just on what we do, but what He does through us. Seeing this in how to blend His love in my life to all areas leads me to share the following.
Through the years God has given me so many opportunities to serve. I came to Waples through the encouragement of John Duncan the pastor at Lakeside Baptist church. He said go to Waples and pray and see how God leads you. Small churches provide areas to grow in so see what He shows you.
I had grown up playing the saxophone and piano. After a few months God brought together a group to do some praise music and when we played a blended set of music to praise and worship God. Not only did we play at church we played in other churches and places to minister to others with our gifts for His Glory. This created the desire to share and grow more in however He directed.
As the church was growing, I was then called to become a deacon. An area that encouraged me to grow deeper spiritually so God could reach out through me. Now that He had asked me to be a leader, He was shaping me as He began to grow the body. We began to see some families with children have a need to grow their children’s love for God.
This led to adding AWANAS to Sunday nights. I may have been the commander, but we did it all as a team. Through prayer together and prayer individually we trusted Gods hand upon this area. At the time we had less than 10 children on Sunday morning yet on Sunday night we had over 40. A program designed to grow a church in turn grew the leaders and the Kingdom, but not many more on Sunday morning. We could have thought we failed in our eyes, yet we did not fail in God’s eyes. We would have failed if we didn’t pray and rely upon His strength. Kingdom minded is challenging because we do not always directly see the impact of God’s love through us. We will one day in Heaven and will get to see all the ways God connected us to His love.
That leads me to a little over 4 years ago. I stepped up to be interim pastor and thought I was to just serve in the gap. Little did I know God had plans deeper than I thought. I was called to serve as pastor, but I stated here is what God has laid upon my heart to the deacons and our church. We are to help other small churches in what we learn and then I know the calling goes beyond Waples because we are always to be Kingdom minded.
With that being said, we knew the harvest is ready, but we began to pray for laborers and in turn God has blessed us with so many talented and gifted people. I believe these gifts are for us to share not only at Waples, but also to share with other churches and blend the gifts to be Kingdom minded.
Community prayer meeting has been a start in showing us. I believe we see people get frustrated thinking their calling does not fit and then they change churches because they didn’t feel their calling fit there. It may be that all the small churches need to blend their resources and share their God given gifts with others. In doing so we may see His love through us encourage others, equip some to get involved and we also get to experience the fullness of God’s love in and through His body.
All gifts come from Him and we are to share. All resources belong to Him, so we are to be good stewards of them. We have been entrusted with His love, so we need to trust Him by walking in His ways and not ours.
So let us look and see what God has for us. So yes, pray now before going further.
The reason I stated that it is the first “P” of the seven is prayer. I pray this encourages you because He showed me every step has a purpose the past steps, the present steps and the steps to come. Every step counts, every step matters and we need to pray to stay in step with Jesus.
